Here's a couple if points in response. There's a lot here, so I'm just going to hit the big ones:

1. To win in this town, you need to hit all these cities: Sheboygan, Cedarburg, West Allis, Oak Creek, Mukwonago, and Racine/northern Kenosha. Don't ask me why, but this is where it's all at. If you don't cover them all, you're never going to be #1. That's just the way it is.

2. Energy is incredibly fatiguing. There is too much compression. The songs are too fast and too edited, hitting the post all the time is a bad thing, and the station needs to breathe. These things cause listeners to tune out.

3. Being ahead of the curve is a bad thing. You want to be on the curve, not too early and not too late. Why? Listeners tune out unfamiliar songs.

4. You need a local-sounding, live-sounding voice 24/7 if you have competitors who have this 24/7. This is 97.3's fatal flaw, and this is Energy's fatal flaw. Everyone says stations talk too much, but take the jocks away and everyone tunes out. Wrap your head around that paradox. (Case and point: 94.5. Lots of buzz in the beginning, then fizzle 6 months later.)

5. It is true that Energy has (or had) the best promotions team in Milwaukee. That is important. However, that only gets listeners to the station to try it out. You need the other things to keep the listeners.

6. Cousin ED is a puker. I'm sorry, but he is. He sounds like a radio jock. This isn't a bad thing, but it isn't a good thing either. He doesn't sound like Milwaukee people sound like because he sounds like a radio DJ. This is one of the things that separates the ok jocks from the greats. But when you compete against 2 stations with great jocks, it's one of those things that puts you at a slight disadvantage. It's fatiguing, just like I discussed in #2.
