Why is this a problem? I know lots of engineers and stations that will do maintenance during the day. That's part of the beauty of having an aux transmitter. You can do maintenance to the main during the day. A couple of seconds of off-air to switch rigs is not a huge deal and it won't cause anyone to change the channel. Or, in WISN's case, a pattern change.

For that matter, they could have been on night pattern doing field strength readings (which you have to do during the day) and the dropout was the pattern going back to day...
