Radio is as it's always been.

Programming vs. sales wars. Shitty bar remotes. The best promotion you can get involves waking up everyday at 3AM. Cheap owners who pay shit and treat you like dogs. Fierce competition. Getting fired because the station is "moving in a different direction." It's the same in 2013 as it was in 1970.

The only difference is you don't have cart decks that sound like shit.

Yes, there have been a lot of layoffs. Yes, there are fewer people who work in the industry overall. But it's far from impossible to get into the business, and I see people every day still get breaks and do very well.

Like any industry, anybody who is any good rises to the top and does great things. Everybody who sucks, well, moves on.

Yes, the pay sucks. But we never got into the business for the pay. It's a blast, and it's occasionally made up with concert tickets and a client who brings by free chicken wings.
