Hate to break it to you, but most markets sounds like that nowadays. Smooth jazz is a near-dead format, and while I like actual jazz, the old WYMS was nothing more than a satellite feed. Channel 36 carries that same jazz feed on one of their subchannels, along with a classical feed.

Speaking of classical, yes, it's been missing since WFMR went away. But if WPR succeeds in getting an additional frequency un the market (as they have been rumored to be working on), the format will be back.

Real oldies? Aside from a few obscure AM stations scattered about, it doesn't really exist anymore. Nowadays, it seems like "oldies" have moved into the 70s. Sadly, that's the industry nowadays. The closest we've got is 1290, which is due to sign on an FM translator in August.

Anyone hoping to find true diversity on the airwaves (save for 88.9 or 91.7) ain't gonna get it from local radio anywhere. Luckily, we live in an era where a cheap smartphone with a plan as low as $35 a month can pretty much bring you any conceivable type of format through a simple free app. And yes, you can even listen in the car!
